The finish is very nice but the gold numbers are kind of cheesy looking. It came carefully packaged and worked great right out of the box. It keeps time well and the cuckoo comes out and does his thing correctly on the hour. BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! I think a lot of the complaints you see on here are because people moved the hands backwards or made some other error. The quirky cuckoo followed by a cuckoo echo apparently is the cuckoo calling to his mate who is answering. Watch the cuckoo. He only flaps his wings on the first cuckoo. Since we bought this primarily to entertain our grandchildren it has inspired their imagination. They line up in front of the clock and wait for the cuckoo and listen for his "girlfriend". For the price it's a good deal if you want a first step cuckoo that won't hit your wallet too hard. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 12 Inch Cuckoo Clock (Kitchen) This is a very neat Vollmond clock. It's almost all wood, except for the cuckoo door, clock face, and hands (the hands are even plastic, not tin). The appearance is great, and the little bird has cool motions (it's beak opens, and the wings 'flap'). It comes in and out smoothly, and the doors work perfectly.
I don't have a problem with the running water/cuckoo call, but I would have appreciated a chime, like all 'real' cuckoo clocks have. There is just the "coo, coo" - no bell chime (not even a recording of a chime). The 'return call' echo is confusing at first for counting the hour chimes. To me, they sound nothing like monkeys, as is mentioned in other reviews! ;) The volume/off control is located OUTSIDE the housing, on the side - very easy to access and adjust. Light sensor works well to shut off the bird and sound at night. Clock movement is dead silent - no 'clicks' like in many cheap quartz movements. The pendulum swings very naturally - not...Read more |
