According to La Crosse tech support the "radio tower" display is only lit during the synchronization process and for about 20 minutes after the sync. Unless you are willing to sit up from midnight until 6 AM to watch your clock sync there is no way to know if you have "atomic clock" accuracy or just an overpriced LCD clock on the wall. When I initially set up my clock it didn't sync with the atomic clock so I set it manually. I intentionally set it a few minutes slow so I could see when it had synced. It ran for days without an update. I then reset the clock in a different room where it sync'd itself and put it back on the wall in my TV room. Days later I don't know if it is syncing or not. The clock appears to be very sensitive to location and position. The manuals suggest the clock may need to face Ft. This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8017U-OAK Digital Wall Clock with Remote Temperature (Kitchen) I have owned this clock for 8 months and have nothing but praise. While its looks are a matter of taste, I bought it for function, not form. It does what it is supposed to, and does it well. Initial set-up was easy and trouble free. It has maintained perfect time, and the remote temp sensor is still functioning smoothly. Occassionally, the temp display will go blank, but it always comes back in a short time. I think it has something to do with the clock syncronizing. I owned a cheaper atomic wall clock that I ended up tossing after 4 mos, since it would not syncronize correctly, resetting the time 40 minutes slow and the year to 2004! This La Crosse just keeps on keepin' on... with great accuracy. And isn't that what we want clocks and thermometers to do?! By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: La Crosse Technology WS-8017U-OAK Digital Wall Clock with Remote Temperature (Kitchen) I ordered the La Crosse atomic clock despite the conflicting reviews below because I already have a Skyscan atomic clock (probably the same company) and I love it, except that it doesn't have the outdoors temperature option. I received the clock yesterday and installed it according to the directions around 9 p.m. It picked up the temperature sensor's signal almost right away, and synced almost immediately too. Another reviewer here says that "According to La Crosse tech support the "radio tower" display is only lit during the synchronization process and for about 20 minutes after the sync." That's not true with either of my atomic clocks. Once the sync is successful, the radio symbol stays on for an entire day, so you know that the sync worked. The La Crosse tech support must not know much, though, because the instructions say the clock need 3 AAA batteries, even though it actually uses 2 AA batteries (and 2 more for the temperature sensor). The clocks are very...Read more |
