I though it was very cheap looking... I was expecting metal on the outside and not painted silver plastic!

The chrome ring is plastic and scratches or flakes off the chrome easily. Mine came scratched and dented shipped from the manufacturer. At around $75 the clock is pricey. I assume that almost all of the 15 inch neon clocks are the same inferior quality but not all are the same price. I'd look for the lower priced ones if I had to do it again. Also, it is made in China if that helps you decide.
