Customer Rating: 4 Star
Summary: Great basic clock 2010-09-07
Comment: So far so good. Very easy to set up and easy to tell the time. Just set the digital clock in the back, hang it up, and watch it set itself. The kids enjoyed watching the dials move around setting itself. Now we have to wait until day-light savings to see if it actually works.
Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: Visible, legible, but not too obtrusive 2010-06-27
Comment: If this clock works for a few years the way it has the first month, it will become a very good friend. The set up using the tiny digital clock on the back of the unit is a bit fiddly and you may need a magnifying glass to see the icons, but if you follow the instructions, it will work just fine. Once you have input all the necessary time, date, and time zone info on the tiny ditital unit, the analog clog will set itself accordingly. In my case, that meant the clock had to advance itself almost 24 hours at a fast-forward speed. It takes quite a while for the hands to get where they should be. But the clock is reasonably quiet -- it made a very audible tick for part of each rotation at first, but it seems to have stopped that. It may not be suitable for a very sensitive person sitting very close, but in my home it's great. The white frame blends well, so not too obtrusive. But the numbers (very clear font) are easily visible from a good distance. In the first month, it doesn't seem to have gained/lost any time.

Summary: Seems to be fine 2009-10-31
Comment: This clock could have been complicated to set up, but it was not because the manufacturer had done all the difficult parts. At the back of the clock is a small digital clock powered by a small flat disk battery. The digital clock already had its battery and was preset for both time and date. The date is important because the clock is supposed to automatically reset when we switch between Savings and Daylight times. The digital clock needed only to be told what time zone it is in. Do that before putting two AA batteries into the large clock. When you install the two AA batteries, the hands start circling until the clock gets to the right time. Probably, once the battery in the small digital clock runs down, one will have to replace it and reset the little digital clock on the back. There are instructions in the box for that. This is not an atomic clock. (We never get the satellite that sends that information even if we mount a clock in the window.)

The face has large easy to read numbers and a sweep second hand. One can even see the little lines between the numbers in order to tell the difference, say, between 5:22 and 5:24.

Theoretically it should reset at the switchover from Daylight to Standard time. If it doesn't, I will take off a star.

AFTER SWITCHOVER:

I am of two minds as to whether I should remove one star. It did not update when Standard Time started. On the other hand, it turned out the year in the little digital clock on the back was 2010 instead of 2009. Then, I foolishly forgot to remove the AA batteries before my effort to correct this. So I, myself, messed up which led to the clock resetting itself wrong even though the little digital clock was correct. Fortunately the main clock can be manually set so all is well.
