I previously ordered a clock that said chimes on the hour, but we discovered that it simply chimed, but not the actual hour. What I was looking for was a clock that chimed THE hour. Some of the descriptions of the chiming clocks weren't clear, but the ad for this one was. It chimes one of two choices on the quarter hour, half, three quarter and hour, then chimes the actual hour. It comes packed very well, the wood attractive and it has a feature many would welcome as you can turn the chimes off at night in case you're a light sleeper. The face is big and numbers big enough it can be read from a distance. We are very pleased with our purchase
