Evocative of a bygone era, the Seth Thomas Railroad wall clock is inspired by the rail station timepieces of years past. Characterized by clean styling and a strong aesthetic, the clock looks smart and authoritative on the wall of the great room, the study, or the home office. Its casing is constructed from solid American hardwoods with a warm honey-brown finish, subtle carved edge pieces, and assertive upper and lower trim. Glass casing covers the interior of the clock, complementing its design with black and gold-tone accents. A lower, inner chamber contains a spun gold-tone pendulum, while the upper contains the dial. The easy-to-read dial features Arabic numerals in a distinctive font. Equipped with German-made movement for high accuracy, the clock sounds 4/4 Westminster-Ave Maria chimes, plus includes volume control and optional nighttime shut-off features. Bought this clock to replace an old clock that chimed incorrectly for the hour. This is a nice looking, nice sounding replacement. It chimes on the quarter hour, and on the hour plays what ever chime you pick then the chimes the hour. The quarter hour is not just a chime, it is a partial playing of the chime you pick. It has a nice sound for being battery operated and playing through a tiny speaker in the back of the clock. It has a volume control which is great, and a night shut off that turns the chime off from 11PM to 5:45AM. There is no ticking sound, which did not matter to me. It is easy to read and is fairly light weight so no worries when you hang it. The only thing that knocked a star off the rating was that the setting dials on the back are not easy to set. They are small and inset so hard to turn. Luckily once you put the battery in it starts keeping time so you can adjust the clock setting and volume as needed.
