The Seth Thomas Surtain clock combines the prettiness of a bonnet-top design, with the convenience and sophistication of a wall-hung timepiece. Expertly crafted, the slender clock has a solid oak case with a low-gloss, honey-colored finish and matching pendulum arm. The styling is simple yet refined, with a confidently-trimmed base, gentle curves, and gold-colored resin flourish at the upper front. A highly-readable round dial is securely suspended in an internal panel of wood--though the clever design makes it seem as if it’s floating behind the glass door pane. The gold-tone bezel matches the clock’s external hardware and pendulum, while complementing the oak coloring. Off-white and black for clarity, the face features large Arabic numerals and simple hands. The piece is run by accurate, German-made quartz movement, plus includes 4/4 Westminster-Ave Maria chimes with volume control and automatic nighttime shut-off.
